What Are UIF Files?

UIF stands for Universal Image Format. It is an image file (with the extension of .uif) of a CD or DVD that is compressed. This technology is created by MagicISO. It is used to edit, create and extract image files, and it supports a few different formats. This format is compatible with the operating system of Microsoft Windows, MAC and Linux.

The following are the features/advantages of UIF files:

1. Fast
2. Password protection
3. Encryption of data
4. Support for MD5 checksum
5. Size reduction of image files

The files can be quickly accessed because these can be accessed directly, without the need of extracting.

UIF files can be password protected and has built in data encryption, enabling safe transmission over the net to authorized users only, and denying hackers' access.

The sizes of image files are reduced without compromising much on the quality. This is achieved by compressing the cluster part of the disk sector. Even popular extensions like .zip and .rar do not work as well as .uif.

The following are the uses of UIF files:

1. Create a complete data into an ISO image for CDs or DVDs
2. Back-up CDs or DVDs, VCDs and SVCDs in multi-sessions
3. More uses:
a. Burn UIF image
b. Mount UIF image
c. Create UIF image
d. Compress and decompress UIF image

You may use a virtual software program to mount UIF as a virtual CD in order to access all the files within, as if you are accessing the original CD or DVD. MagicDisk is a freeware program by MagicISO that opens up UIF files on the Windows operating system. If you are on the Mac, convert the files to ISO format with a tool such as the UIF2ISO by simply dropping the file into the tool.
